Mark Ridsdill-Smith who runs the ‘Vertical Veg’ web-site calculated that in one season he was able to grow vegetables to the shop value of some £900.00 on his windowledges, and in containers in his back yard.
Now we can’t promise that you’ll quite achieve this. But you can try to get near it! Find out how easy it is to grow spicy salad leaves in a pot on your windowsill, and what other tasty food you can propagate in containers.
We’ll look at soil & compost types, discuss drainage & watering, brainstorm on everyday objects that make suitable growing containers, share planting tips, help you establish your growing space characteristics, and look at how to tackle pests.
And the first 15 people to turn up will also get to sow seeds in a decent sized pot which they can take away, and which will yield food within 3-4 weeks.
There will also be an opportunity to find out a bit more about Transition Walthamstow over a cup of tea, and hear about some of our exciting ideas for events and projects in 2013.
Join us at the Hornbeam Cafe (458 Hoe Street, E17 9AH) at 8pm on Weds 22nd May.
This event is free, all welcome.
