What do you want from Transition Walthamstow?

Find out when our next meeting takes place – and why you should come along.

What would you (yes, you) want to get from joining Transition Walthamstow? What’s in for you?

These were two of the questions that we asked ourselves at the most recent meeting of the Transition Walthamstow Initiating Group.

The meeting took place at St Mary’s Welcome Centre on 12 September, and one of our main topics of discussion was how we could get more people involved with the group. We want more folks to join us – as many as we can get.

But if people are going to join us, they – you – need to know that they are going to benefit from being part of Transition Walthamstow. So we want to know what it is that would make you come along.

This is going to be one of the themes of our next meeting – taking place on Monday 10 October at 7.30pm. The venue has now been confirmed, as Le Delice in Hoe Street (pictured above).

We want to grow our numbers and will be talking about how to go about doing just that. We’d love to hear your ideas and about what you would want to get from Transition Walthamstow – what would make you want to join up?

An October 2021 Office for National Statistics (ONS) survey showed that 75% of British adults are worried about climate change. Respondents also reported feeling helpless and anxious, as well as being concerned about the cost of making eco-friendly lifestyle changes.

Maybe you’re one of these people. You might feel helpless in the face of the seemingly irreversible breakdown in our climate, you want to do something about it but you’re not sure what. And anything you can do feels like it won’t make a difference or beyond your reach.

This is where Transition Walthamstow comes in. We want to create a network of people in collective action to make a resilient and climate-safe Walthamstow. But it’s not just about networks – it’s about community; it’s about people; it’s about you and me coming together as friends to make our local environment that little bit better.

That’s how we all benefit from being part of Transition Walthamstow. Together we can make a difference. We can address those fears and concerns and find ways to overcome them.

We’re also looking to improve this website. So if you have any ideas on that, bring those along too!

Next meetings Our regular meetings take place on the second Monday of the month, at 7.30pm. The venue is yet to be decided and we’ll let you know as soon as we have confirmation.

The forthcoming meetings are:

  1. Monday 10 October at Le Delice, Hoe Street

  2. Monday 14 November, venue TBC

  3. Monday 12 December, venue TBC
